Here it is, my MLB 2005 Season Preview. Hold on to your seats, cause this is gonna be exciting stuff. Just remember, if I am wrong about anything in this post, I don’t care. It’s still January, a lot can happen between now and the start of the season. Just doing this to see how accurate I can be at the end of the year. It is multiple parts so everything will be easier to take in and make it easier to discuss. There will be separate thread for each division followed by the playoffs.
We will start with a divisional breakdown here. The order the teams are listed in is the order in which I am picking them to finish in their respective division.
AL East[/u]
1 New York Yankees- The Bronx Bombers retooled their pitching staff yet again, but the result remains the same: a division title and a ticket to the playoffs. Steroids or not, that batting order isn’t too shabby either. Not surprisingly, the Yankees will buy more players as the year goes on helping the cause.
2 Boston Red Sox- The loss of Pedro won’t hurt as much as you might think. They are still just as solid as they were last year, but it really doesn’t take that much to finish second in this division. The additions of Clement and Renteria will help secure another trip to the playoffs for these guys. They also take the Wild Card in a terribly predictable American League.
3 Baltimore Orioles- A lot of people (myself included) thought the Orioles were destined to do great things last year after a flurry of off season signing. I think we have all learned our lesson there. When the owner is more worried about another team moving close and taking away the fan base than he is on actually winning, you are in trouble.
4 Toronto Blue Jays- While the big boys are going after the likes of Beltran, the Jays are happy to land Corey Koskie and Shea Hillenbrand. Yikes. Roy Halladay must love Canada. Because if I was him, I would be thinking of ways to get myself deported back to the States so I never had to pitch for the Blue Jays again.
5 Tampa Bay Devil Rays- Come and watch a bunch of guys with huge upside that the Rays won’t be able to afford in 3 years! And they say that there is no room in the MLB for a salary cap. Yeah, ok. Remember the names Baldelli, Crawford, and Huff. Because soon you will be looking them up to see what OTHER teams they are playing for that can actually afford to pay them.
